Went out with wai today to walk around Orchard. I wanted to get some formal wear while he wanted to get some T-shirts. Ok fine. We wanted to feast our eyes for a bit since it was quite some time since we last went out together. Anyway, it's a pretty hot day so we stayed indoors for most of the time. After feasting our eyes for abit we felt that it was time to let our stomachs enjoy a bite as well. So off we went to the Old Chang Kee @ Paragon to grab something.
It happened that a foreign couple was queuing in front of us. It happened that they were in a dilemma to choose what to eat. The kind singaporean Old Chang Kee auntie was recommending a stick of chilli fish balls to the guy.
"Try this, got chilli inside. Not bad." Said the auntie.
"Really? Try? Try for free?" The ang moh guy said.
I wasnt expecting foreigners nowadays to be so good at haggling. They must have inherited Singaporean's kiasu spirit. I was quite amused myself.
"No lar. 90 cents only ok?" The auntie was tickled by his comment.
And so we were next in queue.
"小弟, 来, 要什么?" Said the auntie.
I didnt know why I suddenly said this but I think the foreign guy in front of me must have given me some inspiration to continue the joke.
"Auntie try 是free的hor?" I said.
"没有lar. 哈哈哈. Auntie 那里可以给你free的?" Auntie laughed heartily.
And so I chose a stick of fish ball while Wai brought a puff. I passed her a $2 note and she was supposed to give me 90 cents change for the fish ball. The auntie was trying to figure out how much change she needs to return me while laughing at the joke.
"Auntie 你要找回我九毛钱" I said, trying to help her.
"Aiyo auntie 老了lar. 看到帅哥就紧张了lar" She said.
Wai and me were laughing away this time. She then walked to the cashiering machine and withdrew my change. As she return me my change she said:
"Auntie 已经很久没有这种感觉了.哈哈哈!"
Wai and me were LOLing as we walked away from the stall.
Looks like we should wear formal more often :)
