Nobody likes to be the bad guy and limit someone's future and potential. At least thats what I think. Since she is giving you some leeway, return her the favour and prove that you can do better!
It is never too late to start learning. It is really up to yourself whether you wanna open your mind and learn, or keep within your area of work. I dont need to preach anymore, I believe you understand the importance. No matter what you learn it always be part of you, besides you never know when something comes in useful until you are in the situation. Knowledge is permanent.
Nobody cant force you if you have no interest. Nobody cant force you if you dont want to endure. I feel that you need to think things through and have a plan. Not for 3 months, 6 months but long term - and follow it strictly and make sure there is no backing down.
